21st August - 10th September 2019
Lapland
Esther & I drove from Baldham to Stockholm in our mobile home, taking the ferry from Danzig to Karlskrona.
Fiona and Becky flew to Stockholm and back from Helsinki, accompanying us on our tour of Lapland.
Esther & I then drove home after catching the overnight ferry from Helsinki to Travemünde .
We had a wonderful holiday, seeing 2 lovely capital cities, the magnificent Sarek national park, northern lights, reindeer and much, much more....

Baldham-Danzig
Ferry Danzig - Nynäshamm
We set off in the afternoon, having a brief sleep at a motorway srevice station just before the Polish border. The overnight ferry left early evening, so we had an evening meal and breakfast on board, and slept well in a 2-berth pet-friendly cabin.

Nynäshamm - Kvikjokk
via Stockholm
We visited Gripsholms Slot, Mariefred on the way to Stockholm, where we picked up Fiona & Becky and spent a couple of days at Bredang Camping, a short ferry ride or train ride from Stockholm. From Stockholm we headed for Lapland: first stops were Jokkmokk and Kvikjokk, on the Kongsleden long-distance walk. Highlight for me was the remote Rapadalan, a breathtakingly beautiful valley only reachable by a longish walk or bike-ride, which turned out to be much more strenuous than predicted by komoot: it took me over 6 hours, rather than the expected 3.5! THe overnight ferry wasn't cheap, but it saved us a lot of driving, we got a good nights sleep with full board: ideal preparation for the last long drive back home!
