Overview
Despite generous cash prizes, there were disappointingly few entries, so I entered 3 days beforehand in response to Jörg Siebers appeal for more competitors.
When I registered there were exactly 8 seniors, and less than 32 in the mens category, so I decided to enter the mens category, assuming there's be 2 groups of 16, and I'd be in the B group. This will be tougher than the seniors, but even the seniors is be too strong for me! In fact there were 64 men, split into 6 groups of 8, and 8 seniors.. Players were allocated to groups according to squash levels, and I sneaked into mens 2, seeded last, so hard games were to be expected!
In the first round I lost 3-0 to Alexander Neuman (seeded 1): I played quite well, but made too many backhand errors, partly because I lost sight of th ball against the dark sidewall. Nevertheless, from a positive presepective, Alex conceded more points against me than against anay other opponent.
Second round was against Michael Aurich, who beat me 3-1 in the Deutsche Ranglistentournier. It was a close match, which I won 3-2.
In the 5th/6th place play-off, I lost 3-1 to Maurice Holland. After winning the first set 14-12, Maurice had more energy and was quick picking up my stops. IAs so often, I should have played more to the back of the court bafore going for the stop.
To summarise: 3 hard games, nice tournament, with nice social atmosphere and good food & company!
