I'd just won the Slovenian Masters, my first tournament in the 65+ category, and was fairly fit, so I felt I had a reasonable chance of winning the tournament. My main concern was my arthritic left shoulder. Although this ached off-court, it was not an impediment when playing (provided I warmed-up properly), although I couldn't hit hard volleys.
As Pete, Julie & Katrina were visiting us, I asked Alan to scheduke my first game as late as possible on Friday, so we could visit Andechs before I headed to Nürnberg in the Mobile Home. Due to heavy traffic at roadworks, and my putting the wrong squash club into the navsat, I only arrived 10 minutes before my first game wa due to start, so warm-up was curtailed, but I managed to win against Hermann Gebhardt without dropping a set.
On saturday I won 3-0 against Günter Dehn in the quarter finals, but dropped a set against Karl-Heinz Röttger in the semi-final.
The final was scheduled for 11:10 on Sunday, but we started 25 minutes early. Werner Schmitz had had tougher games on Saturday, so I tried to keep up the pressure and not let him settle into a rhythm. The tactic worked: I won 3-0!
A successful tournament for Munich players: Thomas Grübel won the Over-55's and Michael Aurich won the Over-35's. Alan Hathway won the Over-70's: his 13th German Senior Title, a new record!
I headed home immediately after the Medal Ceremony, arriving home in time for coffee&cake (Fionas excellent Mothers-day Limoncello Cake) but I just missed Fiona, Becky & Lily.

Finalists: Werner Schmitz & myself

Semi-finalists. Karl-Heinz Röttger, JM, Wener Schmitz & Felix Paal.

Quarter-final opponent, Günter Dehn
