Castelui Corvinilor (Corvins castle) in Hunedoare was about 2 hours drive from Camping Veverita in Buzias. I'd originally intended to head then for the Scarisoara Ica Caves, or Cluj Napoca, but we decided that the caves were not worth the extra drive, and we liked Iulia Alber so much, we decided to spend the night there and skip Cluj.
Lovely medieval castle, lovingly renovated after a disastrous fire and subsequent neglect.
Pretty old town

The fortress Alba Carolina, designed by architect Giovanni Morando Visconti, was built between 1716 and 1735, at the behest of Emperor Charles VI of Habsburg. But the site was previously a large Roman settlement, and even earlier, was (close to) the site of the important Dacian political, economic and social centre of Apulon. It's huge - the walls must contain millions of bricks - it took us half an hour to walk half way round the moat!
We parked for the night right next to the main entrance, which as we arrived after 18:00 cost nothing.... although we bought a parking ticket for Sunday, so we didn't have to leave by 08:00 - not too painful at 8 Lei (€1.67)!
UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sibiu was subsequently designated the European Capital of Culture in 2007, a title which it shared that year along with Luxembourg City. One year later, it was ranked "Europe's 8th-most idyllic place to live" by Forbes.
We enjoyed wandering round the historic old town, having a late breakfast and light lunch, before heading on to Alba Iulia.
